Dear Pedro,
I have waited a long time before deciding to write you this
virtual letter. I thought that I would have never been able to
write you something that could explain fully the role that your
person and your creations had in my life. I know very well that
these words can appear exaggerated, the words of a fanatic, or
something like that, but I can guarantee that a fanatic would
never be able to build an organic construction like this site.
These are the words of a grateful person...
Your music changed my life. I can't even
think about what I would have been if Madredeus didn't enter my
life two years ago. I can't think that because the pattern on
which my emotional life developed recently was and is made of
Madredeus notes, chords and songs. I have known marvelous people
thanks to Madredeus, I have developed my musical taste, I have
discovered the beauty of a language, but the most important thing
is that I have discovered the most hidden and genuine part of my
soul. I have discovered my real self and I will thank you forever
for that.
Your music has been the soundtrack of these
two years made of satisfactions, saudades, loves, women, music
and great interior changings. The memories of these years are
forever linked to those incredible songs that I can't stop to
listen just because every time I listen to them I learn something
of myself, of the feelings that I am feeling in that moment.
I also listen to other music, I love other
musics, other artists, but when I hear a Madredeus song I feel
the same sensation that you feel when you return in your city,
Lisboa, after your long travels. I can swear that it is the same.
Your figure has changed my life. In a
world in which the artists (musicians, writers, poets,
actors,...) are losing their "sorcerer" role in
society, you seem to me as a person from another age. I don't
want to say that you are a "sorcerer" but the iconic
image that you have in me is pretty similar. Society, today, need
"sorcerers", and not in a religious meaning. Society
need wisdom and, particularly, need that unique kind of wisdom
that only artists can have: a wisdom which is consequence of
travels, of the meeting with hundreds of different people,
cultures, habits and experiences, and consequence of the
possibility to be appreciated for the beauty of the most intimate
creation of your soul. You become wise when people explain you
the meaning of what you have created.. In a world that is opening
to quickly, only that wisdom can teach you what are the beautiful
possibilities of that globalization. We need that the artists
teach us "what is" the world. And you are that kind of
person.
Much more than that, I have always dreamt
to become a person like you, with the possibility to travel, to
play my own music, my own poetry, to meet so many people, to
become a "sorcerer", a person that can judge events
from a wider point of view.
Your words changed my life. Thanks to your poetry I discovered the incredible beauty of a language, of a way of expression, and I have discovered the meaning of the feeling that was so important in my life: saudade. I have always felt that feeling but I had never been able to explain it to myself, discovering its origin, its definition, its beauty. Your words did that.
I end this long letter
reminding you that whatever you will read in this site, it is the
product of a burning soul. No rationality, no logics.
This is my home and its bricks are the
beatings of my heart. Its door will be forever open to you.
